Yes we know that the swimming season is over and for most of the country,…
This is a very fair and common question. What kind of money am I going to save by installing a salt chlorine generator compared to the other forms of chlorine to sanitize my pool? Well, once again, have no fear we are here to help you with those comparisons so you will be informed before you make your decision. To understand the comparison below, we need to understand that the chlorine generated from a Salt Chlorinator is equivalent to 100% pure gas chlorine and 12% strength pool store liquid chlorine. Typical Tri-Chlor and Cal Hypo are 89% and 65% available chlorine, respectively. Therefore, 1 lb pure chlorine from a salt chlorinator = 1 gallon liquid chlorine, 1.125 lbs of tri-chlor, or 1.5 lbs of cal hypo.
In order to show the comparisons, we will break down the different size cells available for our AutoPilot systems (actual prices will vary by location):
-
RC-35/22
- The RC-35/22 Cell – Maximum recommended residential pool size is 35,000 gallons
- Produces 200 lbs. of pure gas chlorine at the average cell price of $382.99
- Produces 200 gallons of liquid chlorine at the average price of $2.25 per gallon = $450.00
- Produces 225 lbs. of trichlor tabs at the average price of $3.20 per pound = $720.00
- Produces 300 lbs. of cal hypo at the average price of $3.00 per pound = $900.00
-
RC-42
- RC-42 Cell – Maximum recommended residential pool size is 42,000 gallons
- Produces 300 lbs. of pure gas chlorine at the average cell price of $569.99
- Produces 300 gallons of liquid chlorine at the average price of $2.25 per gallon = $675.00
- Produces 337 lbs. of trichlor tabs at the average price of $3.20 per pound = $1078.00
- Produces 450 lbs. of cal hypo at the average price of $3.00 per pound = $1350.00
-
RC-52
- RC-52 cell – Maximum recommended residential pool size is 52,000 gallons
- Produces 575 lbs. of pure gas chlorine at the average price of $829.99
- Produces 575 gallons of liquid chlorine at the average price of $2.25 per gallon = $1293.75
- Produces 646 lbs. of trichlor tabs at the average price of $3.20 per pound = $2070.00
- Produces 863 lbs. of cal hypo at the average price of $3.00 per pound = $2589.00
-
CC-15
- CC-15 Cell – Maximum recommended residential pool size is 60,000 gallons
- Produces 1,000 lbs. of pure gas chlorine at the average cell price of $1188.00
- Produces 1,000 lbs. gallons of liquid chlorine at the average price of $2.25 = $2250.00
- Produces 1,125 lbs. of trichlor tabs at the average price of $3.20 per pound = $3600.00
- Produces 1,500 lbs. of cal hypo at the average price of $3.00 per pound = $4500.00
As you can see by the above cell production equivalence and cost, there is a significant cost difference between the prices of the regular chlorination products and the chlorine created by an AutoPilot salt chlorine generator.
